Science in elementary school is not something you can learn without touching and feeling. My students desperately need these hands-on opportunities...
I teach in a high-poverty school that is located in a small town in Georgia.
I find that many of my students are lacking the experiences needed to build a firm foundation in Science. Many have never left our town or its immediate area. It is difficult for them to picture a world outside of Georgia- much less our planet.
My Project
If we were to receive these resources, my students would be able to form a better "picture" of our galaxy. The movable planetarium would make understanding the rotation of the Earth and moon more tangible to my students. The motorized solar system would show the students how the Earth and other planets move around the sun- as well as put their size and distance into perspective.
I am humbled to think that people who do not know me or my students are willing to give donations to help our classroom.
It means more to me and to the students than I can ever fully disclose on this page. Just know that our classroom takes learning very seriously and these two resources will not only help this year's students - but classes in the future.
